On July 30, 2026, a devastating avalanche on Broad Peak, the world’s twelfth-highest mountain, claimed the lives of all ten climbers attempting a summit push. The incident occurred between Camp 2 and Camp 3, at approximately 6,600 meters. Among the deceased were renowned climber Nirmal Purja, five other Nepali climbers (Yukta Gurung, Nima Sherpa, Gyalu Sherpa, Nwang Thendu Sherpa, Kili Pemba Sherpa), Omani climber Nadhira Al Harthy, American climber Mallory Geis, Pakistani climber Sohail Sakhi, and Chinese climber Wang Zhong.
